The last day

Another view of 'My favourite road' not seen here for a few months. The project finishes today and 200 will be shown at Glyndebourne in October - dates etc to follow. Thanks to all of you that have followed this project over the past year, for your comments and support. Watch out for news of new projects. Over the next few months I am planning some larger landscapes and I aim to complete a life size portrait. (in actual fact I haven't started it yet, so I suppose I should say I aim to START a life size portrait). See you soon in a town near you!

The penultimate day!

I haven't painted a seascape for a while and the sea has been beautiful of late. Actually that's a dumb thing to say - the sea is always beautiful. This is a new version from some studies I did a while ago.RESERVED

Still very hot

Hot!

Really hot today and it looks like it's set for the weekend. Beautiful on Eastbourne seafront today. This is the bandstand, looking east.

Near Birling Gap

Whenever I chat with overseas visitors I advise a trip from Eastbourne to East Dean via Beachy Head and Birling Gap. It's such a beautiful drive at any time of the year. Looks like there are exciting developments at Birling Gap with the National Trust taking over the cliff top cafe.

Eastbourne Promenade

Today was a perfect summer day. Warm at 7.30 am and beautiful all day. This is a view of the promenade opposite the TGWU centre.

Building site, Falmer

Looking at the downs through the grid of a security fence. Falmer - midsummer day 2010.

New Stadium

This is a glimpse of the new stadium at Falmer. It'll be the new home of Brighton & Hove Albion. Looks like it will be a very nice building.

Main drive - Firle Place

Here is the main visitor entrance to Firle Place. This particular aspect has a very European feel, like a French courtyard.

This is quite a place. I came here 15 years ago on a dull February day and have really no memories of it. I returned today on a bright mid summer day and saw the house and grounds in all it's splendour. (more paintings of Firle Place to follow)

View from Lottbridge Drove, Eastbourne

This is a loose study of the downland that forms Eastbournes western boundary see whilst driving from Lottbridge Drove along Cross levels way.

I painted something like this last year whilst returning from Art Ete in Dieppe. This is a similar view but at night.

Barn near Lewes

Just south of Ringmer on the road to Glyndebourne. A barn.

Leaving Lewes Station

Lewes station has a really nice feel to it. Plenty of hand painted wood, tongue and groove and the like. This is looking back at the station travelling back from London. Not so hot today, after a great weekend.

Glyndebourne

Another beautiful day today. Very warm - perfect summer day. This is one of the flower beds at Glyndebourne with a mass of Aliums.

Downs near Ringmer

This is just near Ringmer on the road from Glyndebourne. This is one of my favourite compositions. Downland split with vertical linear action. A beautiful say today. Bright and breezy and still light at 8.45pm. RESERVED

Flowers at Charleston Farmhouse

If you haven't ever been here it's definitely worth a visit. It's like a living museum for the 'Bloomsbury Set' Has a beautiful garden too. RESERVED

Trees at Glyndebourne

This is a well planned area near the auditorium. Very calm and full of spring green.

North Laine

There are many lovely little houses in the North Laine area near Brighton station. Many in terraces and in unusual colours.

Near Berwick

About 100 metres after you pass the pub at Selmeston (travelling East) there is a break in the hedgerow on the right that can be viewed if you park in the layby. Blink and you miss it.

Hove seafront

There are number of different types of pedestrian shelter along this stretch of seafront. This is EXACTLY where Hove becomes Brighton. RESERVED

This is on the A27 just past the Alfriston turnoff (heading East)

The Lewes Arms

Lewes. What a great place. This is a lovely little pub near the town centre behind the Hop studios.

Promenade

It's surprising how many people use the seafront early in the morning. But then, why wouldn't you? It has got to be one of the best free activities EVER whatever the weather, at any time of year. Though summer mornings/evenings bright autumn afternoons and stormy winter days all have their appeal.

Near Alciston

The bright yellow of the rapeseed fields is now just starting to appear. I'm sure I'll be painting this a lot over the next month or so. (painted yesterday - Friday 7th May) RESERVED

A bit bleak today (for May!) This is another seascape: Eastbourne Beach near the Wish Tower.

A tiny walkway in Brighton's Lanes with some interesting retails offers and a great eating place at the end.

This is at the side of the building facing the sea. It reminded me of something similar I saw in Miami a few years ago. High contrast and a beautiful mid blue.

Really bright and sunny all day today. This is looking towards the bandstand from the lifeguard beach.

This is the road just near the Needlemakers.Early morning before people are about. High contast and a bright white shop.

I noticed this little dog taking the sun outside a shop in Rye. He seemed to be saying 'What are you up to then?'

Another beautiful day today. This is the lower section of the Azur restaurant and bar opposite Marine court.

Moo

You see a lot of cow portraits around these days but I couldn't resist this. The one in the foreground seemed to be saying 'Hi - stay for a chat' but the other was something quite different.

Absolutely beautiful morning today. Really bright sunshine washing the streets. Lots of high contrast a la Miami Beach.

Another view looking into Carluccios in Jubilee Square. There's something romantic about looking into cafes like this and imagining the hubbub and discussions taking place.
