This is quite a place - Shoreham Harbour. Pleanty of interesting houses and houseboats with great views inland towards Shoreham. This seems to be the easternmost point.
I came here about 30 years ago and forgot what a fascinating place this is. Accessed from Shoreham Beach there is a lake that runs parallel to the sea with houses that back onto it.
Merry Christmas to all who have been following my blog over the past year or so. This is a general view looking north just after the golf club at the top of the hill out of Eastbourne on the A259.
The pink house near the church right at the heart of the citadel in Rye. I've always liked this building and I LOVE this part of Rye. As some of you will know I've been coming here since the early sixties and it still feels exactly the same.
This is looking west towards East Dean with the farmhouse near the A29. Passed by 1000 of drivers each day. Snow has settled for a few days up here and just starting to fall again.
Lots of people Christmas shopping today in Brighton. Freezing cold but a warm atmosphere on the streets of North Laine and Jubilee St. This is looking into Carluccios at tea time.
Wednesday 2nd Dec - Waiting for the train back to Hove after our meeting on Monday this week. I love the angles and planes in a composition like this. Almost no colour except for the yellow line.
Tuesday 1st Dec - Visited Ford yesterday for a meeting about a possible new project. Pretty bleak and windy but a nice train journey from Hove. This is an ecclesiastical building I spied just near the station.
Looking out to see from a the top of the steps at Birling Gap. The sea was actually much wilder than it looks here. In fact I've NEVER seen the sea as wild.
I live near here just to the right of the picture in the middle green strip. This is a view of the water that forms a major part of the new Eastbourne Park off Lottbridge Drove. Its pretty flooded at the moment.
Though it's a bit run down at the moment, it will be a sad day when they demolish this building. It's up for sale as a development site and there is a real opportunity to create something brilliant here.
Was really bleak and windy today and the sea spray almost obliterated (visually) everything on the seafront. This is looking west near the council offices.
I love these views of the grand squares in Hove, particularly on bleak days when the trees are loosing their leaves. This is looking north towards Church Road.
Had a tour of the 2012 Olympic park yesterday arriving back in Eastbourne just as it was getting dark. There is always something really emotional (in a good way) about this sight for me. I particularly like it when the train stops for a minute or so before continuing into the station.
I'm getting to think about Christmas lately and though there hasn't been any snow yet I hope there will be as I plan to create a lot of snowscapes this year.
A general view of the town of Shoreham looking inland. I don't really know Shoreham and it's one of those places I'm not really sure about. Must investigate sometime. SOLD
Theses are the old coastguard cottages overlooking the Seven Sisters just outside of Seaford (and near Cuckmere Haven) on an imagined calm summer day (not today). RESERVED
A majestic view from the entrance to the car park. I would imagine that hill paintings like this are quite a shock when first viewed by visitors from abroad.
A study of the road near the Western Lawns opposite the Grand Hotel on Eastboune seafront. This is unfinished as I will be using a gloss glaze to enhance the feel of lights on a wet road.
One of my favourite paintings is Whistlers nocturne in blue and gold of the Battersea bridge. He managed to achieve a fantastic sense the time before darkness falls with minimal colour and marks. This is another view of the Eastbourne Pier just before dark.
I've seen a lot of the downs just before dusk recently. I love the contrast and drama of the impending night after a sunny day. This is near Beddingham.
On July 1st 2009, Sussex artist Julian Sutherland-Beatson began a year long project creating 365 original paintings of the Sussex landscape and seashore. He has been creating a 'daily painting' since April 2008 (see link below) and the project has attracted interest from all media: web, print, radio and TV. Sussex 365 is a continuation of that project.
NEWS - The final collection was shown at Glyndebourne Opera House (near Lewes) in October. Thanks to all of you who were able to come along to visit.
